🏃 Membership at Excelsior Running Club

Excelsior Running Club is proud to be home to a diverse and passionate group of runners from across the Bay Area and beyond. Our members span all ages and ability levels, united by a shared love of running and a commitment to community. Whether you’re chasing podium finishes or simply looking for a supportive crew to train with, you’ll find a welcoming space here.

We offer a healthy mix of competition, camaraderie, and fun. Our women’s team continues to grow, and we’re dedicated to making the sport more inclusive and empowering for female athletes.

🏅 Competitive Spirit

Excelsior competes in the USATF Pacific Association (PA), which covers Northern California and Nevada. Our teams participate in:

  • Road races: From 1-mile sprints to full marathons

  • Cross country: 3–6 mile trail races held in the fall

  • Ultras: 50K to 100-mile and timed endurance events

We field both men’s and women’s teams in open and masters divisions, and many of our members also race outside the PA circuit. This brings a wealth of experience and insight into local, national, and international events.

🗓️ Training & Meetups

We host regular group workouts and long runs throughout the Bay Area.

  • Wednesday Workouts: 6:00 PM at Kezar Stadium in San Francisco

  • Weekend Long Runs: Rotating locations across the region

  • Dawn Patrol: 5:45 AM Tuesday and Fridays in Golden Gate Park

We also organize occasional trail runs, hiking adventures, and other outdoor activities to keep things fresh and fun.

  • 20% off at Road Runner Sports

  • Discounted gear from our apparel partner, Rabbit

  • Rehab and recovery support through our partner, Sports Medicine Institute

  • Access to group workouts, race support, and a vibrant running community

📊 How Team Racing Works

Curious about how team scoring works in USATF races? Here’s a quick breakdown:

  • Road & Cross Country:

    • Road races are scored by the combined time of the top five finishers from each club

    • Cross country uses the sum of placings from the top five finishers

  • Ultras:

    • Top three finishers’ times are used for men’s, women’s, or mixed teams

With a packed race calendar, we don’t expect every member to run every event. But we do rally together to field teams for many key races. There’s also individual competition by age group, so everyone has a chance to shine
